Aims
and Objectives
The Low Countries Sculpture Society aims
to increase communication and foster discussion between sculpture
historians, conservators, collectors, curators, custodians, creators and
all those interested and enthusiastic about this medium, as well as to
enable the research and preservation, both materially and
intellectually, of sculpture, medals and sculptors’ drawings from the
Low Countries, from antiquity to the present day.
The website will be instrumental in achieving this,
and an annual programme of at least three lectures, three visits and a
study tour will complement the ‘virtual’ website
discussions. Collaboration with other societies concerned with sculpture
and encouragement to publish in such journals as The Sculpture
Journal, Church Monuments and The Medal will be
central to the Society.
In the long term, it is hoped that the Society will
become a body with an active lobbying role for the promotion and
preservation of Low Countries sculpture. We will actively seek
sponsorship, gifts and legacies that will allow us to embark on
large-scale publication and/or exhibition projects and assist the
conservation of Low Countries sculpture.
The Society will be very glad to receive requests for
information relating to any aspect of Low Countries sculpture and will
do its best to supply this or to direct the enquirer to a proper source
for it. However, valuations of individual sculptures are not conducted
by the Society, though it is more than happy to arrange for a member of
the Society to conduct them on their personal account.
All postal correspondence to be
sent to POBox 1304, B-1000 Brussels 1. |
